Receive Money from Overseas

We can assist you when receiving payments from overseas in a foreign currency into Australia that is then converted into Australian dollars (AUD). In general, the quickest and most convenient way for someone to send you funds from overseas is via a Telegraphic Transfer.

The overseas financial institution can use one of two intermediaries (CUSCAL or Western Union) to transfer the deposit to your Bank account.

Receiving money using CUSCAL

You may receive money from overseas using CUSCAL’s service. CUSCAL will not accept funds transferred from overseas directly to themselves, therefore your funds will need to be processed through an intermediary bank. You may be able to nominate either an intermediary bank of your own choosing, or CUSCAL’s preferred intermediary bank, NAB.

Please advise the overseas remitting bank to convert foreign currency to Australian Dollars to avoid rejection.

Please be aware that TTs’ from overseas recipients can be sent via a network of correspondent banks, each of which may levy their own charge or commission. These fees are outside of our control and may vary according to the circumstances, therefore we are unable to advise the amount of fees which may apply to any particular transaction. The amounts which may be charged depend on a number of factors, including (but not limited to) –

  • the amount/currency being transferred; and
  • the number of intermediaries involved in the transaction.

Receiving money using Western Union

  1. Click on the online form button below – Receive money from overseas through our partnership with Western Union Business Solutions.
  2. Choose the country you are receiving funds from.
  3. Complete the relevant information in the online form and submit.
  4. You will be then presented with the PDF deposit instructions. Please save it for your reference and email it to your payee/ follow payment instructions.
  5. Ask the sender to :
    •   present these instructions to their bank when sending the payment to you;

    •   deposit the amount into the dedicated account as stated in the instructions in local currency and not in AUD;

    •   instruct bank teller to include the “Payment Notes” in the bank’s reference field as specified in the PDF deposit instructions;

    •   please request your remitter (sender) email you a copy of the bank transfer receipt showing the date, amount and transaction number. This information may be of assistance in locating the transaction (if required).
